Tachometers – Note: HSE expects Commissioning Engineers to physically measure the rotation speed of fans during Commissioning of LEV plant and to record this value in their Commissioning Reports.

It’s not always possible to use a ‘contact’ tachometer. The units we have sourced are ‘contactless’ laser/digital tachometers which will do the job in most cases – even where a ‘contact’ tachometer cannot be used.

They all require a small piece of reflective tape (provided) to be attached to a moving part of the motor – and it is that reflective ‘target’ that the laser picks up. Sometimes the reflective tape does not ‘stick’ terribly well and we have found that the best option is to use a small piece of double sided carpet take first and then to stick the reflective tape target to that. You can find rolls of additional reflective tape and carpet tape as options in the menu.
